Daniel Heimgartner
Daniel Heimgartner
Lecturer at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering
Daniel Heimgartner started his PhD at ETH Zürich in October 2021. His background is in Economics where he followed the double degree track jointly hosted by the University of St. Gallen and Stockholm School of Economics. Before joining ETH, Daniel interned at the Swiss National Bank (Department II, Financial stability) for one year. He has a strong interest in (statistical) programming, in particular the R language and its extension.
Daniel is involved in research investigating the impact of home office on transport demand. He estimates statistical models jointly explaining home office access and frequency which then are used to generate the synthetic population in the MATSim transport simulation framework. The work will also result in an R package allowing the estimation of Heckman-type selection models with ordered outcomes. At IFW he is involved in two projects, one modeling people’s strategies to mitigate CO2 emissions and the other eliciting preferences for public transport access modes.
